Augmented reality one step closer to fruition.

I would love to be in on the ground floor beta testing this which google calls "project glass".

Project Glass is part of the Google[x] special projects division that also includes self-driving cars. The glasses team is led by Babak Parviz, Steve Lee and Sebastian Thrun.

The New York Times first reported the project in February. At the time, it said the glasses were expected to go on sale later this year. However, Google said today that it’s unlikely the glasses will hit the market this year.

Wish this was real?

If you do then you are my kind of geek. Bill George a Visual Effects Supervisor who works at Industrial Light and Magic, having worked on 6 “Star Trek” and 2 “Star Wars” films definitely is. He wanted to work in this field since he was in 5th grade and saw a classmates book " the making of Star Trek", and he was hooked. He says that sometimes just loving the old sci-fi just isn't enough so his labor of love to her is the Sci-Fi Airshow.

I wish there was more people like this that loved the old ships. I love the detail he puts into his "Hobby"

If you would like to see more checkout his site at Sci-Fi Airshow.

Electronic Paper? No really this time!

In Europe anyway. Lg is releasing it's epaper for our neighbors across the pond. This digital paper will have a six inch display with a 1024×768 screen and will be 0.7mm thick . It can bend at an angle of 40 degrees and weighs 14g. The idea is that it’s more durable (it’s scratch resistant and can be dropped from a height of 1.5 meters) and thinner than lugging around an e-book, will consume less electricity, and will be cheaper because of this. I am excited to se my scifi future slowly becoming a reality. Now where is my Minority Report display for under $100?

Google to try selling Tablets directly from their site.

With Android tablets falling well behind the iPad in terms of market share, the company is entertaining this idea once more. According to a Wall Street Journal report, Google will begin to sell co-branded tablets directly to customers through an online Google store. Haven't we heard this before and they didn't like the idea of taking care of the customers after the sale. Well I hope it works and they are ready for it this time. I would like some head to head competition for the iPad it is healthy.

Robert Stephens bids BBY adiue

Robert Stephens the founder of Geek Squad announced that he’s leaving the company. He announced his decision on his blog,  saying “I’m ready to build new companies.”

Geek Squad was a startup in the 90s, offering assistance to the less tech-savvy. The company built its identity around the image of a team of “geeks” in clip-on ties, driving to the rescue in black-and-white Volkswagen Beetles. Stephens wrote that he would continue to assume a role within the Best Buy organization as an outside advisor to the company’s CEO Brian Dunn.

I look forward to seeing what he builds next and hopes he can get back to his geek roots.  Anyone interested in reading the whole blog post go to here http://tinyurl.com/7v6lrbb .
